How To Control The Chaos Before The School Year Starts

The new school year is approaching fast, and you know what that means – Back to school shopping, angry fits, Oscar worthy performances from the “clean your room” script book, and a massive mess in the living room.

Before you find yourself standing knee deep in mess and old toys, try out some of these life changing tricks to keep the chaos in check.

Tip #1: Own Breakfast

Summertime is the perfect time to try out new breakfast recipes with your kids. You can even cook them together, making it into an activity that they will remember for a long time, and have a positive connection to it. Let’s say you make up a new breakfast toast recipe together, and then make it all year long. Your child will feel like they helped create this meal, and they’ll be more happy to eat it every morning once school starts.

Tip #2: Personalize Their Backpacks and Totes

A small thing like a cute badge or a pin they like can really make them feel more at ease when going to school. Remember- Kids need to feel that they can express themselves. Allow a little clutter in, and help them feel more comfortable with their belongings.

Tip #3: Time To Stock Up

Go to a dollar store and buy a year’s worth of memo pads, pencils, erasers and notebooks. You’ll be surprised how much time it saves in the long run.

Tip #4: Taking Care of Cuts and Bruises

Get a home emergency kit and open it with your kid. Look at each item and talk to them about its purpose and use. Next time they get hurt in school or just playing around, they’ll have a better understanding on how to make it better, and be less scared when the school nurse brings out the bandages.
